Dr Jon Rainford has worked in education for over 10 years. He has experience of research, evaluation, teaching and facilitation. Currently in working in Higher Education on the margins between academic and professional services, he has previously worked with learners across the full spectrum of ages.

His research interests are primarily in the Sociology of Higher Education and his doctoral research focused on exploring the gaps between policy and practice in relation to widening participation in higher education. He often draws upon creative methods in both teaching and research.

Specialist in Widening Participation and Creative Evaluation Methods

With over ten years of experience in teaching and facilitation, Jon has taught across the full spectrum of ages from Primary Schools to Postgraduate Students. He is equally adept at working in traditional classroom environments, delivering remote sessions or using blended approaches.He is equally confident delivering inspirational lessons to young people as he is training staff in evaluation, pedagogy and use of technology to teach.

In addition to being a skilled educator, Jon has experience of research and evaluation, especially within the Education sector. His practical skills and strategic level insights may be just what your organisation needs.

Research

 
  • Experienced in Qualitative Research including both face to face and remote interviewing.

  • Experience of both leading and supporting research projects through planning, data collection, analysis and write up.

  • Expertise in use of creative methods in data collection and dissemination.

  • Experience of writing for a range of audiences including academic and policymakers.


Evaluation

 
  • Over 5 years practical experience in evaluation in widening participation and higher education.

  • Experience of both developing strategic level plans and localised implementation.

  • Experienced in Theory based approaches and supporting the development of Theories of Change.


Training and Faciliation

 
  • Experienced teacher and facilitator.

  • Has over 10 years experience of planning and delivering sessions for Primary, secondary, FE, HE and Staff development.

  • Development of bespoke train the trainer style sessions to help develop internal capacity for evaluation with non specialist staff.

  • PGCE in Secondary Education (14-19) and MA in Education
